Monday GameNotes & Lineup

We are in QC and ready to go. Rain looks like it should stay away for tonight. Tomorrow? Not so much. I got my game notes out of the way early today so I could use the bus time to finish tracking my Dad’s success running his 2nd Boston Marathon with my Sprint Wireless card. He ran it in 2005 as well and did great today, finishing in 4:23 with Mom there at the finish line waiting for him. Very proud of him and since his legs will be sore all night I know they will be listening to our game from the hotel in Boston right across from Fenway Park!

As for the Chiefs, Richard Jones is out a couple of days again as his ankle acted up yesterday with the double header. Hopefully he will be back in the lineup on Thursday when we return home. Rohan back at first today and Elliot Soto gets his first start of the season at third base. On another injury note, Marcus Hatley is unavailable today, and probably for this series. He injured the thumb on his throwing hand when he fell off the mound while delivering a pitch in game one on Sunday. He stayed in the game and earned the win but his thumb us sore today.

Monday lineup vs. Bandits

Szczur CF
Silva RF
Rohan 1B
Borges DH
Gibbs C
Fitzgerald LF
Alcantara SS
Soto 3B
LePage 2B
Simpson RHP followed by LHP Eric Jokisch

Will will not face Rock Falls native Seth Blair in this series. Tonight the Chiefs face LH Kevin Seigrist and tomorrow it is Austin Kirk against RH Zach Russell. The Chiefs also avoid #9 prospect Jordan Swagerty who has yet to give upa run this season but on Wednesday (1 pm start) it will be Robinson Lopez against RH Trevor Rosenthal who struck out 11 batters in the Bandits opening game this season.

QC Flooding

Well we made it to Davenport, over the river, across the flooding and used the temporary bridges. Here are some pictures of our ordeal:

Sunday DH

Good to be back with baseball on this Sunday afternoon after back to back rain/snow/cold outs here in Appleton. It has been absolutely freezing and there was a little snow that stuck to the ground yesterday. Thankfully the Fox River Mall is directly across the street from our hotel and there are plenty of restaurant options. The players got a workout in at Gold’s Gym yesterday as well and now we are ready for a Sunday Doubleheader.

In the MWL 6 of 8 games were rained out on Friday and 5 of 8 were canceled on Saturday. Quad Cities had both games washed out at home so their rotation for this week’s series is full of question marks and now we may not see Rock Falls, IL native Seth Blair who is tentatively scheduled to pitch today against Burlington instead of tomorrow against the Chiefs.

There is a chance of rain in Quad Cities for each of the next two days but here is our updated rotation through Saturday with Sunday being a league wide off day for Easter.

Monday at QC 7 pm RH Hayden Simpson/LH Eric Jokisch
Tuesday at QC 7 pm LH Austin Kirk
Wednesday at QC 1pm RH Robinson Lopez
Thursday vs. Beloit 6:30 pm RH Dallas Beeler
Friday vs. Beloit 1pm LH Cam Greathouse
Saturday vs. Beloit 1pm LH Graham Hicks
Sunday OFF DAY

Today the Chiefs face LH Del Howell and RH Tyler Thornburg. Howell was with Wisconsin last season and was a 15th round pick out of Alabama in 2009. He was 3-7 with a 4.68 ERA in the MWL in 2010 and 0-1 with a save against the Chiefs. Thornburg is the Brewers #8 prospect a 2010 3rd round pick out of Charleston Southern  and he was 1-0 in nine games and six starts in Rookie Ball last season.

Today’s Game 1 lineup is the same as Friday’s was going to be:

Szczur CF
Silva RF
Rohan 3B
Jones 1B
Borges DH
Gibbs C
Giansanti LF
Alcantara SS
LePage 2B
Greathouse LHP

Friday Game Notes/Bus Ride

Now that was a long morning bus ride and very cold and windy when we got off the bus in Appleton. Its great to have Russ our veteran bus driver back after he was with Bradley the last few days. Tony filled in admirably for the Burlington series. We were also joined on this trip by Russ’s son Nate who will be leaving at the end of the month for another tour of duty in the Middle East and we thank him for his service.

There are still piles of snow in the Fox River Mall parking lot across the street from our hotel and a few of our players had never seen snow and were taking pictures! We may get snow flurries tomorrow too.

The Wisconsin rotation is set and we will have:

Friday LH Cam Greathouse (0-0, 6.24) vs. Wisconsin LH Del Howell (0-1, 5.79) at 6:35 pm
Saturday LH Graham Hicks (0-1, 2.25) vs. Wisconsin RH Tyler Thornburg (0-0, 3.0) at 1:05 pm
Sunday RH Hayden Simpson (0-0, 4.15) vs. Wisconsin RH Austin Ross (1-0, 2.45) at 1:05 pm

Gonna be cold in Appleton all weekend and a 90% chance of rain/snow on Saturday afternoon. Thornburg is the Brewers #8 prospect a 2010 3rd round pick out of Charleston Southern and Ross is the #30 prospect, an 8th round pick out of Louisiana State where he played with Micah Gibbs. First baseman Cody Hawn is the #20 prospect, a 6th round 2010 pick out of Tennessee and catcher Tyler Robers is the #23 prospect, a 10th round pick in 2009 out of HS in Georgia.

We arent going to the ballpark until 4 pm so lineup will be posted about 4:30 in a separate post.

Thursday Notes and Lineup

Dallas Beeler and Robinson Lopez filp flop in the Piggyback tandem so Beeler gets the start this evening. After tonight’s commuter we drive BACK to Peoria and then head up north to Appleton, Wisconsin at 7 am tomorrow for about a 5 hour bus ride.

The Wisconsin rotation is set and we will have:

Friday LH Cam Greathouse (0-0, 6.24) vs. Wisconsin LH Del Howell (0-1, 5.79) at 6:35 pm

Sunday RH Hayden Simpson (0-0, 4.15) vs. Wisconsin RH Austin Ross (1-0, 2.45) at 1:05 pm

Gonna be cold in Appleton all weekend and a 70% chance of rain/snow on Saturday afternoon.

Wednesday Lineup & Notes

Richard Jones will miss his third straight game after being hit by a pitch in the right ankle on Sunday. Sergio Burruel back in the lineup behind the plate today and Matt Szczur gets a day off as Rubi Silva plays center. Pierre LePage who had a day off yesterday will leadoff and DJ Fitzgerald moves back to left with Elliot Soto Dhing.

Great win for the Chiefs last night, nice to get the bats going again and to come from behind on the road. Has to give this team a bunch of confidence that they are never out of a game.  The early plan is to get a interview with last night’s winning pitcher Eric Jokisch for tonight’s pregame show. We’ll see how batting practice goes.

We finished The Next Three Days with Russell Crowe and Elizabeth Banks on the commute over (we started it last night) and then started the underrated ’21′ with Kevin Spacey and the MIT crew that broke Las Vegas. We are about a half hour into it and will finish it on the way home tonight. On a reading note I finished the Damages novel I was reading and started a bio on Roy Campanella that just came out, called Campy by Neil Lanctot. I only got about 20 pages into it when 21 started.

Today’s lineup:

LePage 4
Silva 8
Rohan 3
Borges 9
Fitzgerald 7
Giansanti 5
Burruel 2
Soto DH
Alcantara 6
Kirk 1

Tuesday Notes & Lineup

Nice and easy bus ride back over to Burlington as we finished off the movie The Fighter which we started last night…and then started Faster with The Rock. The Fighter was outstanding. I hadn’t seen it and now I know exactly why Christian Bale won an Oscar and it was very well deserved. If Wahlberg does indeed go ahead with his sequel about the Ward-Gatti trilogy I’m in, thats for sure.

As for the baseball, a tough one last night with seven walks issued an no stirkeouts recorded by Chiefs pitchers. Last time that happened was 4/13/06. Wow. We did turn four double plays which helped keep the score 4-2. The offense started hot with three hits in a row to start the game but just two hits after that and Burlington retired the final 13 batters in the game.

Richard Jones (ankle) is out again today and Pierre LePage gets his first day off as well. Here is Casey’s lineup:

Szczur 9
Silva 8
Rohan 3
Borges 7
Fitzgerald DH
Gibbs 2
Giansanti 5
Soto 3
Alcantara 6
Simpson 1 followed by Jokisch

Hayden Simpson makes his 2nd start after a very good pro debut on Thursday in which he struck out 7 in 3 2/3 innings and allowed just one run on a solo homer with three hits allowed and one walk. He will again be followed by Virginia, IL native Eric Jokisch who allowed one run on three hits over four inning on Opening Night.

Here are Tuesday’s Game Notes: April12GameNotes

Broadcast starts at 6:10 at www.peoriachiefs.com/listenlive and I will again have live updates during the game on Twitter and Facebook. I hope to have an interview with Elliot Soto on the pre-game show as well.

Monday Lineup & Game Notes

Time for our first road game of the season. We watched Jackass 3-D (except not in 3d) on the bus ride over. I elected instead to keep reading my novel from the Peoria Public Library – Damages by John Lescroart and listen to the iPod though the few scenes I did see were pretty laugh out loud funny.

This starts a 10 game trip but seven of the game are commuters to Burlington or Quad Cities with three games at Appleton, Wisconsin in between. Commuters make for long days and the bus rides back can be tough if the losses mount up, or are heartbreaking. Especially so now with the Bees being affiliated with Oakland who is known for looooooong games with the “Moneyball” philosophy of taking pitches, stepping out of the box time and time again and taking a long time on the mound between pitches as well. Hopefully one of these four games stays under three hours.

This is Burlington’s home opener so it may be a bit of a late start with all the pomp and circumstance. They are 3-1 after winning a series at Clinton.

Here are today’s game notes with Graham Hicks on the hill: April11GameNotes

Bees Lefty Jacob Brown is on the hill so Richard Jones gets a day off as does switch hitter Arismendy Alcantara who hits better against righties for his career.

Szczur CF
Silva DH
Rohan 1B
Borges RF
Gibbs C
Fitzgerald LF
Giansanti 3B
Soto SS
LePage 2B
Hicks LHP

Pre-game show starts at 6:10 pm and i hope to have an interview with Richard Jones who homered and had two hits in yesterday’s 9-6 win. You can listen live at www.peoriachiefs.com/listenlive while I will also update our Twitter Feed and Facebook Fan Page with in game updates.

Sunday Game Notes & Lineup

Our first Sunday game of the season and it is a beautiful day at O’Brien Field. Not a cloud in the sky, sun is out and the scoreboard says 77 degrees and climbing as the Chiefs take batting practice. Peoria is looking to even the series at 2 wins each with this lineup:

LePage 2b
Silva cf
Rohan 3b
Jones 1b
Fitzgerald dh
Borges rf
Giansanti lf
Burruel C
Alcantara ss
Greathouse lhp

In three games this season the Chiefs have 34 hits and 20 runs scored with just two errors. However a staff ERA of 6.00 and a couple big innings against the bullpen have led to the two losses.

Greathouse had outstanding numbers last season in Boise and you can read more about the Columbus, GA native in today’s Game Notes: April10GameNotes

Rotation is set for the Burlington series, our first road games of the season:

Monday LH Graham Hicks 6:30 pm
Tuesday RH Hayden Simpson piggybacked with LH Eric Jokisch 6:30 pm
Wednesday LH Austin Kirk 6:30 pm
Thursday RH Robinson Lopez piggybacked with RH Dallas Beeler 6:30 pm

On the air today at 12:4o www.peoriachiefs.com/listenlive Alan Fuehring will have a pre-game interview with second baseman Pierre LePage and then after the game will will re-stream all four games of this series mixed with interviews I have conducted with Hayden Simpson and Austin Kirk leading up to tomorrow’s 6:15 pre-game show. Enjoy!
