Home Sweet Home
Its great to finally be back home and we will get very comfortable and familiar with Peoria and O’Brien Field over the next few weeks. After a nine game road trip and a couple of long series with rain and travel we will now play 20 home games over the next 24 days. Nine this homestand, then three games in Kane County and a day off on May 16 before an 11 game homestand in 10 days that starts on May 17.
This is a unique homestand with two day games and a Sunday night game which we have not done since 2006. The Friday 11 am game and the Sunday 5pm game are because Bradley is also home this weekend against Southern Illinois and they will play before us on Saturday.
I’m really looking forward to our first fireworks show on Saturday, set to Star Wars music with it being Star Wards night complete with characters and guests on hand from the 501st Midwest Garrison.
Against Clinton, who we swept last week, the Chiefs again are presented with a left-handed heavy lineup. The Chiefs staff handled the lefties from Clinton last week but did not handle the lefties very well against Beloit. Clinton tonight bats 4 lefties and one switch hitter.
Thursday will feature 1st rounder vs. 1st rounder as Hayden Simpson pitches against Taijuan Walker who was just promoted to Clinton on Tuesday. Walker was a supplemental 1st rounder in June and he is ranked as the Mariners #4 prospect in Baseball America.
