Sunday Game Notes, Lineup, etc.

Well let’s say we took a unique route to the ballpark today with a fill-in bus company and driver. Oops. Oh well we are here and ready to win the series with former River Bandit Tyrell Jenkins on the mound. Jenkins was 1-2 with a 3.51 ERA in this ballpark lats season in 12 starts with 63 strikeouts in 51 1/3 innings of work. You can check out his full pitchers page in today’s GameNotes

We will face starter Vincent Velasquez, a former 2nd round pick who is the Astros #13 prospect. Velasquez had a very strong 2012 season in the NY Penn League after missing all of 2011 with Tommy John surgery. He will be followed in the piggyback system by former Bradley University star Joe Bircher. I had the chance to watch Joe pitch a few times at Peoria Chiefs Stadium with Bradley the last few seasons and the lefty has very good stuff. He was 3-4 with a 3.31 ERA in 13 starts last year in the NYP League and I’m sure he is looking forward to pitching in Peoria later this season. Bircher was all Missouri Valley at BU in 2012 and second team in 2011. He struck out 113 last year, the most for a Bradley pitcher since 1956. He set BU career records in strikeouts (302) and innings (359.2) while finished second in starts (50), fourth in win (21) and fifth in ERA (3.58).

Here is the Chiefs Sunday lineup for the series finale:

Swinson LF
Mejia SS (first game batting 2nd, 6 game hit streak)
Valera 2B (first game batting 3rd, 4 game RBI streak)
Walton 1B (first game batting 4th)
Wisdom 3B (first game not batting 3rd)
Vargas DH
Martini RF
Tilson CF
Velazco C
Jenkins RHP
