Update on Former Chiefs in Fall/Winter Leagues

Jacob Wilson (2013) has appeared in eight games so far for the 11-10 Salt River Rafters going 9-for-29 (.310) with one home run and 10 RBI. He hit a 3-run Home Run last Thursday and drove in four runs. If you get MLB Network, Salt River will be on Tuesday at 8pm Central against Mesa. Which brings us to…

Over on the Mesa Solar Sox, former Chiefs outfielder Jorge Soler (2012) is batting .281 (16-for-57) with a home run, four doubles and 10 RBI. He had a single and a walk in Saturday’s AFL Rising Stars All-Star Game.  Wes Darvill (2012) has played in eight games batting .222 (6-for-27) with a home run, double and five RBI.  Dallas Beeler (2011) is 3-0 in four starts with a 3.86 ERA and six strikeouts in 14 innings. Matt Loosen (2011) has pitched five times out of the bullpen going 0-0 with a 2.89 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 9.1 innings.


The Aguilas Cibaenas feature two former Chiefs – Frank Batista (2010) and James Leverton (2010). Batista has pitched once and threw 1.1 innings with no runs, no hits and one strikeout. Leverton has also thrown four times going 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA and one strikeout in two innings.

The Estrellas de Oriente have six former Chiefs. Junior Lake (2009) has played in two games since joining the team and is 3-for-8 with a RBI. Mario Mercedes is 2-for-8 in four games. Nelson Perez (2009-10) who was released by the Cubs this year and played in the Mexican League, is 9-for-29 (.310) with two home runs, two doubles and four RBI. Pitcher Luis Liria (2010-12) has pitched twice as a reliever with a 16.20 ERA in 1.2 innings. Marcos Mateo (2010) is 2-0 with a 1.08 ERA in seven games with three saves and five strikeouts in 8.1 innings. Jose Pina (2007-09) is 0-1 as a starter with a 60.75 ERA allowing nine runs on six hits and four walks in 1.1 innings.

Tigres del Licey feature two former Chiefs. Arismendy Alcantara (2011) is 4-for-24 (.167) in seven games with a double and a walk. Pitcher Chris Narveson (2001-02) who is now a MLB Free Agent is 1-0 with an 3.24 ERA in two starts with three earned runs and 11 hits allowed over 8.1 innings.

Toros del Este also have three former Chiefs. Jim Adduci just joined the team and is hitting .211 (4-for-19) with a double and two RBI in five games. Jeff Antigua (2009-12) is 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA in four games allowing three runs on five hits and five strikeouts over 4.0 innings. Adalberto Mendez (2005) is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in four games and one start with seven strikeouts over 4.0 innings.


Bravos de Margarita –  Breyvic Valera (2013) is picking up where he left off in Peoria this year hitting .333 in 19 games (20-for-60) with 12 runs, two doubles, two triples and six RBI. He also has seven walks and two stolen bases.  Silfredo Garcia (2013) is 0-0 with an 9.00 ERA in 10 relief outings with two saves. He has seven strikeouts and three walks in 8.1 innings. Frank Del Valle (2011) is 0-0 with a 1.59 ERA in four games and one start with five strikeouts over 5.2 innings

Ildemaro Vargas (2013)is playing for Caribes de Anzoategui and is 0-for-13 in eight games.  Vargas is joined by 2005 Chiefs pitcher Jon Hunton who is 1-1 with a 12.15 ERA in 10 games. Hunton has two saves and five strikeouts in 6.2 innings.

Yoanner Negrin (2011) is 3-0 with a 2.73 ERA in five starts for Leones del Caracas. He has 20 strikeouts in 26.1 innings of work.

Eliezer Alfonzo (2000) is 13-for-48 (.271) for Navegantes del Magallanes. He is joined by Robinson Chirinos (2006) who is 4-for-16 (.250) with a double and three RBI. Erik Hamren (2009) is 0-0 with 1.35 ERA in eight games. Hamren has a save and two strikeouts in 6.2 innings.

Eduardo Figueroa (2011) is on the Tiburones de La Guaira where he is 1-1 with a 27.00 ERA in two outings with four runs allowed in 1.1 innings. Alex Cabrera (1994) is batting .408 (29-for-71) with two HR, seven doubles and 16 RBI in 19 games.

It has been seven years since Jesus Yepez wore the Chiefs jersey or played in a MiLB game and the current MLB free agent is 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 10 games for Aguilas del Zulia.


Jesse Estrada (2005-06) has pitched twice for Naranjeros de Hermosillo with 1.2 shutout innings and one hit allowed while striking out two.

Ryan Buchter (2009) is pitching for Tomateros de Culiacan and is 0-0 with a 1.35 ERA in seven outings. He has two saves and 15 strikeouts in 6.2 innings. Marcus Hatley (2009-11) is 0-1 with a 1.04 ERA in nine outings. He has four saves and 14 strikeouts over 8.2 innings.

Jay Jackson (2008) is pitching for Venados de Mazatlan. Jackson is 2-0 with five saves and a 0.00 ERA in nine outings. He has struck out 14 and walked two in 11.2 innings.

Marco Carrillo (2006-07) is 1-2 with a 2.52 ERA in four starts for Yaquis de Obregon . He has 13 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched.


Ryan Searle (2010) is playing for his hometown Brisbane Bandits but has not yet pitched in their first four games. Wayne Lundgren (2004) is listed on the Sydney Blue Sox roster but also has not pitched in the first four games.

Puerto Rico

Rubi Silva (2011) is on Leones de Ponce and in two games is 2-for-8 (.250) with two runs, one RBI and a walk. He is joined by Jonathan Mota (2006-10) who is 2-for-6 (.333) in two games with one run, one RBI and two walks.

No other former Chiefs have appeared in a PRWB game but each team has played either one or two games.


Blake Lalli (2008-10) signed a Minor League deal with Arizona after being released by Milwaukee in October. Justin Berg (2005 & 2012) re-signed with Colorado. James Leverton, mentioned above, re-signed with Miami.
