Saturday’s Org Report and Former Chief Update
Another big night for the Cardinals organization on Saturday. The St. Louis Cardinals entered a pitchers duel between Washington’s Stephen Strasburg and Shelby Miller. Matt Adams broke the tie with his second homer in as many days and the Cards would go on to win 4-1. It was Adams’ fifth home run of the year.
Memphis lost a tough one in the ninth and dropped the second game in a row to Reno by the same score of 4-3. Oscar Taveras returned to Memphis’ lineup and produced a RBI single in the ninth, but was thrown out trying to stretch his hit into a double; that play ended the game along with the Redbirds hopes for a comeback on Friday. Springfield won a wild won in ten innings over NW Arkansas 5-4. James Ramsey hit a pinch-hit homer in the ninth with two down to send the game into extras. Former Chief Jacob Wilson produced the walk-off single in the tenth to cap an amazing comeback victory. Former Chief Patrick Wisdom launched his seventh homer of the year. Palm Beach saw three of their players participate in the Florida State League All-Star game. Former Chief’s Charlie Tilson and Breyvic Valera each started for the FSL South All-Stars while former Chief Kyle Helisek tossed a scoreless innings of relief. Valera was two for five with a RBI and a run scored while Tilson was one for two with a run scored.
State College won again, beating Williamsport 6-2. Former Chief Robelys Reyes had a big day in his debut going three for five. State College is off to a great start in 2014; they are currently first place in their division.
Former Chief Albert Pujols had a huge night for the Angels going three for six with his 16th home run of the year along with four RBI. Former Chief Robinson Chirinos blasted his fifth homer of 2014 while going two for four with two RBI on the night. Check out Pujols’ long ball below:
