Thursday’s Org Report and Former Chiefs Update
Adam Wainwright was fabulous on the hill and pitched a complete game, however the Cardinals couldn’t muster any offense at all and fell to the Dodgers 1-0. Wainwright allowed only one run off five hits, walked one, and struck out seven as he suffered his fourth loss of 2014.
Memphis’ offense stalled on Thursday as well; they got blown out 9-1 by Round Rock. Memphis collected 13 hits, but was only able to plate one run. Oscar Taveras was four for five on the night. Greg Garcia produced the only RBI of the game. Check out the Game Story.
Springfield just escaped Corpus Christi 6-5 after Lee Stoppelman barely shut the door in the ninth, giving up three runs. Jonathan Rodriguez launched his seventh and eighth homers of the season while former Chief Patrick Wisdom belted a two-run shot of his own, his ninth of the season. Former Chief Breyvic Valera legged his first extra-base hit since his promotion. Former Chief Mike Mayers collected his first win with Springfield after allowing only two runs off five hits over seven innings of work. Former Chief Chris Thomas tossed another scoreless inning of relief. Below is Rodriguez’s second homer of the game:
Palm Beach cruised to another victory, beating Charlotte 7-3. Former Chief Jimmy Reed made his Palm Beach debut and notched the win. He allowed only two runs off seven hits, walked one, and struck out four over six and two thirds innings pitched. Former Chief Ildemaro Vargas drove home three runs on a one for four night. Former Chief Robelys Reyes was one for three batting leadoff for State College in their narrow 3-2 victory over Williamsport. Fernando Baez got his first start for State College and tossed four scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Here is the Recap.
All nine starters for Johnson City reached base in their 7-5 victory over the Bristol Pirates. University of Florida alum Casey Turgeon was two for four with a double and a pair of RBI while Steven Farinaro picked up his first win of the season.
The GCL Cardinals blanked the second-place GCL Mets 3-0. Jorge Rodriguez tossed seven scoreless innings allowing only three hits as he garnered his second win of the year. Malik Collymore and Edmundo Sosa both had three-hit performances.
Quiet night in the majors for former Chiefs aside from a solid night at the plate from Albert Pujols. He was three for four with two runs scored, a double, and two RBI. Former Chief Junior Lake ran into the outfield wall at Wrigley Field and would leave the game, but later said he was alright. Below is the play:
