Just last summer Magneuris Sierra was roaming the outfield at Dozer Park, showcasing his tools against Midwest League competition. The baseball world received quite the shock on Sunday when Sierra, this first 21 year-old to receive a Cardinals call-up since Albert Pujols in 2001, was added to St. Louis from their advanced-A affiliate Palm Beach.

Sierra cracked the lineup in his first day with the Cards, hitting seventh in front of Tommy Pham.

He singled in the top of the sixth inning to left field, a ball that was just out of the reach of Braves’ shortstop Dansby Swanson, recording his first big league hit in his third at-bat.

The center fielder made an impressive catch in his debut, tracking down a ball in the left-center gap with effortless speed.

Sierra finished his first Major League game 1-for-6 with a run scored in the Cardinals’ 6–4 win over the Atlanta Braves. The game went 14 innings, and Sierra played every one of them.

Sierra wasn’t finished, though. Yesterday the Cardinals won again, and Sierra had an even better day at the dish. The number seven prospect in the Cardinals system went 2-for-5 with two runs scored in the 9–2 victory over the Miami Marlins.

The 2016 Chiefs outfielder singled to right in the went to center for his second hit of the game, striking a ball off of the Marlins’ Adam Conley for his third hit in two games.

Fox Sports Midwest caught up with Cardinals skipper Mike Matheny who had some complimentary things to say about Sierra during an interview at Marlins Park.

Sierra played in 122 games for the Chiefs last year, hitting .307 with three home runs and 60 RBI. Sierra was both a Mid-Season and Post-Season Midwest League All-Star, and cracked the MiLB.com Organizational All-Star list in 2016. Sierra and the Cardinals will take on the Miami Marlins again tonight, with Adam Wainwright on the hill for St. Louis and Dan Straily starting the game for the Marlins at 6:10 p.m. Central.

Check back in tomorrow, as Noah previews this weekend’s huge series against the South Bend Cubs. Thanks for reading!
